2 Article Review(i was gone)

Popular Photography: pgs 18-21
1. i think this picture is really wierd but funny. i like how all their speedos are red, which makes them all matching. the guy in the front of the picture adds to it, because he is like the main focus and makes the picture cheery. also, the red crosses on the pool wall just creates a feel of depth in the picture.
2. i love this picture because of the fog lifting off the water. the low clouds and setting sun add so much to this picture. i also like how the clouds fade between a slate grey and a white grey. the grass in the front of the picture is a nice touch, however, i feel it isnt really necessary. overall, i love this picture because of the setting. i love sunset photographs.

Picture Questions

  1. How do you think shutter speed can affect the final result of a photo? (Give examples as needed).

A fast shutter speed can make a photo look frozen while a slow shutter speed can blur an image. Slower shutter speeds can sometimes make a picture more visual.

  1. How would you define Depth of Field and how would it affect a photo?

It’s the part of the picture that is acceptably sharper than the rest of the photograph. This can create depth and feel to a picture.

  1. Why would one even bother changing the aperture and shutter speed, why not just shoot in manual mode?

If you put your camera on the manual mode you wont get the best pictures. If you change it up you can change a semi-boring picture into an outstanding cool looking photograph.

Go to the following sites and read about shutter and aperture:

Answer the following questions about aperture and shutter speed:

  1. Which of the following shutter speeds will let more light in? f2.8 f4 f6.4

F2.888888888888888888

  1. When should you use a tripod when adjusting the shutter speed? (there is an official rule on this you can look up)

Use it when your shutter speed is slower than 1/focal length of the lens

  1. Which of these apertures is larger, f4 or f22?

F4

  1. How can the zoom of the lens affect depth of field?

It will either make the background blurry or fuzzy

  1. What is object isolation? Would you use aperture or shutter speed to achieve this? Why?

When an object is isolated from the rest of the picture

  1. What type of DOF or aperture would you use when shooting a portrait?

F22

  1. How are aperture and shutter speed directly related?

With old cameras the photographer had to set the aperture and the shutter speed manually

  1. What is the actual definition of Aperture?

An opening, hole, slit or crack

  1. If I wanted every aspect in the photo to be clear and crisp, what would be the best f-stop to use?

f-2.8 or 4.0

  1. What is one of the biggest problems with buying a lens that has an aperture of f1.4?

It doesn’t focus very well or shoot accurately.

What i did to the picture: i made the water bright blue so it would stand out and somewhat look fake and then i increased the shadows to be darker and more present in the picture. i also made the green stand out a little in the mountains.

i like this picture because the background looks like your on the moon or something just a ton of clouds and stuff...the rocks are neat i guess.

this picture reminds me of something prehistoric like from the movies land before time. i love the mist coming up above the rocks. i think the contrast between the black rocks and the white mist makes this picture cooolll.

i really like this photo because of the trees. it looks like its nice out, it just snowed so the trees are covered but the road way is still nice. this looks like it would be somewhere in china or japan by the roadway markings.

I chose this photo because i love the reflection of the mountains in the water. i think the ripples in the front of the picture bring your focus to the reflection and the distant center mountain. i think its neat how the black water fades into a crystal clear lake. it makes me wanna visit this place.

I chose this picture because i love how the door is cracked open just a bit and how the light it intensly bright. It reminds me of an old cowboy saloon or something thats very old and rickety in the mountains. I think the sides divided by the door are cool because the left side is super dark but the right side is vibrant with the light shining from the door.

I picked this photograph of Ansel Adams because i love how the water makes the rippling effect but there is a somewhat focus point where there is a calm spot in the middle of the water. i also really like how the sun is right in the middle and super bright in contrast compared to everything else. overall i think this picture is amazing.
